Alethman · State Desk · Uttar Pradesh Sample · the week of 18 to 24 October 2026

Congress puts 175 to 200 seats on the table

12 outlets · 20 to 24 Oct

Agreed

  • “We have submitted a list for 175 to 200 seats,” Congress UP in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam told PTI on 23 October (NIE, TOI, ET, Business Today).
  • Congress has two MLAs in the 403-seat House. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls the SP won 37 seats and Congress 6 (NIE, TOI).

Disputed

  • The number. Earlier reports put Congress’s ask at 125 to 140 (India Today), 125 to 150 (Odisha Bytes, citing NDTV) and about 200 (ABP Live). The SP’s reported offer is 50 to 60 (Indian Express, from SP leaders; ThePrint, from a Congress leader) or no more than 60 to 65 (Odisha Bytes).

Watch: the timetable. HT reports that Congress wants a deal before Diwali, and Odisha Bytes (citing NDTV) says by November.

Places
A small number of pilots, ahead of the early-2027 elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.

Who it is for.

  • Campaign and polling teams

Who now pay people to read regional papers by hand, and want the same reading before the morning meeting.

  • Public-affairs and policy firms

Who brief clients on a state or a sector every week and want a source-linked brief to send on.

What it is not.

  • It does not say who is right.

It shows what is agreed, what is disputed and who carries each version. A person on your team makes the call.

  • It does not write your message.

The brief reads coverage. It generates no posts, statements or talking points.

  • It does not profile private people.

Only public reporting, attributed to the outlets that carried it, with a link to each report.

How it is made.

Alethman reads India’s national and regional press continuously, groups reports about the same event into one story, and compares how each outlet tells it. Every finding is traceable to the articles behind it, and a person reviews the brief before it goes out.

The same engine reads the news in public at news.alethman.com, where each story sets out what every report agrees on and how outlets on the left, center and right told it. State Desk is that reading, narrowed to your state and delivered to you each morning. How the engine works. New to the idea? Read what narrative intelligence is, and how Indian campaign and policy teams use it.

Questions.

What do I get in the pilot?

Thirty days of a daily brief on one state or one policy sector, delivered before 9 am by email or WhatsApp as a PDF you can forward. For each story it sets out what every outlet agrees on, what is disputed, who is carrying each version and what to watch next. You also get a one-page weekly summary, the archive of every brief and access to the Alethman Desk.

Which states and sectors can you cover?

The pilot is aimed at the early-2027 elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. You can also name another state or a policy sector, such as digital policy or energy and trade. Tell us which, and we will say what we can cover.

Does the brief tell me which version is right?

No. It shows what outlets agree on, where they differ and who carries each version, and it links every claim to the report it came from. It does not take a side and it writes no messaging. A person on your team decides what to do with it.

Is it English only?

No. It reads national and regional outlets in English and Hindi.

What does it cost?

We quote each pilot to fit what you follow: the state or sector, and how many people will read it. Tell us what you need and we will send a written quote.

Can I see a sample first?

Yes. Write to us with your state or sector and we will send you a sample brief. The excerpts on this page come from sample briefs for the week of 18 to 24 October 2026.

Who writes it?

Alethman’s engine reads and groups the coverage, and a person reviews each brief before it goes out. Every finding links to the articles behind it, so you can check the work.

Name your state. The first brief arrives the next morning.

Tell us the state or sector you need to follow. We will confirm, and send the first brief within two working days of your yes.
